England Fails to Impress WorldCupLatest Webmaster

With most of the England fans comfortable with England's appearance in the friendly v Hungary and the media as well, I'd like to point out a few key issues from a Greek's perspective. Was that really an England that could win the world cup?

Noone can underestimate the capabilities of Beckham on free-kicks. Also Crouch's, Gerrard's and Terry's capabilities in the keeper's area. But what about getting the ball down and creating an opportunity other than a free kick or a wide cross that can find Gerrard's head?

Hungary did a great job in the defense and the midfield, despite the heavy score. England simply could not pass the ball between the midfielders and the forwards. That was easy to spot out.

Don't like to slash the hopes of England fans, but things need to get much better for England to progress to the final... Every coach of the 31 other finalists knows the capabilities of beckham and the undoubted height superiority in England's forwards. Just hope Eriksson is aware of the situation (although in the press conference he was happy).

This is supposed to be the best England team in over 20 years. Can not believe that noone could put the ball down and make a good effort to get the ball to the forwards, apart from very wide crosses. It just reminds me of the current Greek team which is (sadly for me) full of veterans.

I can't imagine what would be the alternative to Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Michael Owen (and of course Rooney). Theo Walcott is a very positive move and clearly a signal on how things should move forward in the England national football team.
